Lacquered reddish-brown to purplish-brown upper surface. Often a small stem attaching the bracket to the wood substrate. Ribbed white developing to golden-brown. White pore surface. Brown flesh. Brown spore.
Ganoderma lucidum (usually with a stipe and not on yew), Ganoderma resinaceum (much larger and not on yew).
Very rare in the UK. Findings should be reported to Kew Gardens. Considered parasitic and subsequently saprotrophic. Associated with a white rot of the wood substrate.
