Poroid brackets.

Found usually on the stem and larger branches of the host tree.
Annual . This Poroid group contains many different species (still being analysed and expanded through genetic sequencing) of varying genera once forming the Postia genus. The fruiting bodies are generally white though some are grey-white or with blueish tints. Upper surfaces of the brackets are often slightly rough but sometimes hairy. Pore surface white. Flesh white.
Fomitopsis betulina (birch only), Fomitopsis pinicola (early development only).
Generally considered to be saprotrophic species that are attributed to a Brown rot of the wood substrate.
